I work as a charities and social ventures lawyers, leading the team at Taylor Vinters working with social purpose organisation.
I've worked part-time for 10 years since starting a family, in a range of environments: a global law firm, a public-sector regulator, and now at Taylor Vinters.
At work, I specialise in helping charities and social ventures to set up new ventures, to navigate the boundary of public benefit and private profit, and to develop better models for impact investment and social impact businesses.
Away from work, I will mostly be found in and around London with my young family. I now have just about enough time for some voluntary work, which is focused on:
- encouraging tech entrepreneurs to give their time, talent and resources for social good, as a member and chair of Founders Pledge’s Audit & Risk Committee; and
- helping local nursery schools in Cambridge as Co-Chair of the Cambridge Nursery Federation.
What is the biggest piece of learning or the best advice you’d like to share when it comes to combining a senior leadership career with raising young children?
Nothing stands still! However intense they are, the challenges you have at one stage of balancing family and work will fade away and be replaced by new challenges (and opportunities). Ultimately, the key to navigating this is not trying to nail everything down, but building your own resilience and capacity to navigate change, and that of those around you (at home and work).
